Internet Safety First!
Ensure all online communications, especially with people you don’t know, can be easily monitored by your parents. They must be aware of your online activity. If this course is being taught in a school setting (or virtual), permission from parents/guardians is required. Never meet, in person, with anyone alone, ever.
Never share personal information online with others, such as your birthdate, home address (unless you are operating your business out of your home with your parent's help), social security number, or other sensitive information. Keep all interactions professional. Report anything unusual or inappropriate to the instructor and your parents/guardians immediately. Be safe!
Online Scam Alerts
Let’s take a minute to talk about some of the SCAMS that are circulating online. Examples; scam emails that claim to be directly from Paypal, Facebook, Credit Card/Banks, IRS, etc.
Scams can be identified by looking at the web address. Notice if the web address is non-sense. For instance, if I get an email from Paypal telling me to log in, I’ll click on the link and be sent to a page that looks IDENTICAL to PAYPAL. BUT…….the web address makes no sense, and it won’t appear as a www.paypal.com web address as it should.
