Building a Website/Blog - The Foundation of Marketing

“What is a blog?” “Blog” is an abbreviated version of “weblog,” a term used to describe websites that maintain ongoing information. It’s a feature built into a website, which we will show you how to make. A blog features diary-type commentary, videos, photos, link to articles on other websites, and even sell products.

Your website/blog will be the hub of your online journey with written articles, videos (vlog), or pictures. Once it’s set up correctly, people from all over the world can find your website, read your articles, look at your pictures, watch your videos, or buy your products. Your business will grow as people subscribe to your website.

Many blogs focus on a particular topic, such as web design, sports, reviews of all sorts, or mobile technology. Others are more like personal journals, presenting the author’s daily life and thoughts. How would you start yours? Generally speaking (although there are exceptions), blogs tend to have a few things in common.

  • A main content area with articles listed chronologically, the newest on top

  • Often, the articles are organized into categories.

  • An archive of older articles.

  • A way for people to leave comments about the articles

  • A list of links to other related sites, sometimes.

To create a blog, you’ll have to create a simple website. A blog is a page on a website. It’s never been easier to create beautifully and fully functioning websites. One popular website-building platform is WIX.com, and you can build a website for free.

The website creation process has never been so easy. WIX intelligent ADI walks you through the entire process by asking you simple questions. When you only use the “free” version, your domain (web address) will look like this:

Instead of what you ideally want:

www.yournewbusinessname.com

Eventually, you can opt into the paid plan and register your domain name with Wix.com. For now, use the FREE version!

SUBSCRIBERS = Email List

Don’t put this off! Of all the marketing tasks that can boost sales, the email list is the most important. When someone subscribes to your blog they become a part of your journey. Your subscribers are following you because you are offering value to their lives. Continue offering great content because there is a good chance they will ultimately purchase the products or services that you recommend. You can add a subscriber feature on your WIX website which we’ll show you later.
